So I was in ME last week.. and while there I bought something I've been wanting for awhile. 2 new, heavier spindles. I went with 1.5 oz Kundert spindles, 2 of them. I've been thinking about getting 2 of the same weighted spindles from Bosworth.. but since I was visiting Boogie at Spunky Eclectic anyway I wanted to see what she had. I felt spoiled for choice.. alot of her spindles were over an oz. I've recently discovered I love my heaviest spindle (moosie from bosworth) so I went to the 2 heaviest that were the same weight.
I bought quite a few batts. So many people have been talking about abby bats and spunky batts so I bought them. I also brough home the galaxy series. I started on solar flare right away. I am in love.
I was away and didn't tell you. Wanna guess where I was? First clue is the easiest.
yeah.. that is practically giving the game away.. but in truth I barely took any pics while I was there. I was in ME with the Boogie family. Most of the time was spent talking, knitting, spinning, eating and talking. But I did take a few shots.
making batts.. and spinning too.
And making faces. (these are my favorites)
I did some dyeing this past weekend. Some walnut dyeing with the walnut juice I made last fall. (I will call it juice instead of stain until I use it for actually staining things.. right now it is just walnut juice. (ok sorta like pumpkin juice from Harry Potter.) And then I did some dyeing with my jacquard dyes. I really especially like this one:
This is 3 strands of yarn held together. 1 was dyed with a blue, the other 2 are the same yarn doubled dyed with green and a teeny tiny amount of black. I think it looks like Sea Foam. What do you think?
Cell fone pics are what you get today. I am too excited about the knitting to get the nice camera out. Both yarns are leftovers from previous projects. BOTH are Habu Textiles. One is the A93 Shropshire wool, the other is A177a superfine merino. They took the colors like champs. And I was so pleased I couldn't WAIT to sit down and knit with them.
Once I am done with this little beauty I'll show you the wlanut juice ones. But weee.. I am in love with the Habu all over again.
Well I finished yesterday. I crossed the line. I think I have about 555 yds of sock weight yarn. That doesn't include the worsted weight yarn I made... I can't remember how many yds that is (150? I think it was 150). But I definitely have enough yarn for socks. It is a personal challenge, as I always think that sock yarn is something I won't be able to achieve.. but I really think I did it and I am pleased as punch.
This is the whole team crossing the line. the top right is the worsted weight, the rest is all sock weight.
And this is our faithful domestique. She didn't bring me water, but she takes care of me in the sweet way she knows how. (Sue on the other hand brought me water and snacks. God bless her.)
Done. I am so pleased. Once the yarn is set and dry i will take a pic.
wahoo!!!!

but something that coincides every yr with the Tour is PIGLFF (Phila International Gay & Lesbian Film Fest) and so I did take some time out last week to go see some movies. Going to a G&L film fest is a good thing. Supports the arts, supports gay artists and gay stories getting out there so that when people come out it isn't such a foreign thing or a shock to the system. But I will admit, the G&L FIlm Fests are about 50-50 when it comes to giving me a decent story. Sometimes you just shake your head when you leave the theater. Either it is was a badly done production (think old b movies with people doing the stunts in miniature) or it is a disturbing I wish I had never seen that movie. This yr I had a pretty decent run. I saw 3 flicks and 2 of them were over the top amazing.
One of the things that the director Stewart Wade said is "they say every story has been told, but some of them haven't" and that is true. G&L films show stories that haven't been told yet. I know I haven't seen mine on the big screen. (how many bisexual movies have YOU seen?)
Tru Loved is the movie Wade made and not only is it fantastic, it is one you just haven't seen yet. It is about a high school girl named Tru. She moves to a small town with her 2 moms. (She also has 2 dads in SF) She has all the troubles of fitting in to a new school PLUS having 2 moms which makes people just feel weird in general. She ends up being friends with the football star who is gay (but doesn't want anyone to know). She meets a great guy who is being raised by his gay uncle. At the end of the story her moms get married and her football friend comes out. it was a very rewarding story simply b'c Tru makes people look at who they are and how they are portraying themselves. I really loved it. I hope it comes out on video. I hear they are showing this in high schools as part of the gay straight alliances being formed in schools. A very good afterschool special kinda film.
Another film that you just haven't seen is Breakfast with Scot which was awesome in a whole 'nother way. First it was a story with Tom Cavanagh as one of the leads.. and can I tell you how much I love him? He plays an in the closet ex pro-hockey player. (and here is where I give KUDOS to the Toronto Maple Leafs, they are the first professional sports team to give permission for their team name to be used in a movie like this) His partner is a sports lawyer, also in the closet. The sport's lawyer's brother's ex-girlfriend dies and leave a child under the brother's care. But first, they hqve to find him in Brazil. While all that is going on the kid comes to live with them. He is flamboyantly gay, wearing boas and lipstick and jewelry. Much to the chagrin of the very in the closet couple. The kid is grieving for the loss of his mom, the loss of his stability.. and all the while pointing out to random strangers that his guardians are gay. It is a really sweet movie. It showed understanding people for who they are and where they are in their lives. I really really really hope this comes out in dvd b'c I want to own this one very much. Check this movie out if you see it in a theater or at the video st
Other than that I have another batch of yarn spun up and plyed. Pics were taken but aren't with me. I think I might just squeek out enough yarn to make a pair of socks, which is what I will doing as soon as I am done spinning it all.
